Conservation Commission

The Conservation Commission was established by the voters in 1980 to ensure the proper utilization and protection of natural resources and watershed resources in Northfield. Under state statues the Conservation Commission has broad authority to research and catalog local natural resources, recommend protection plans for water resources, receive gifts of money, and acquire in the name of the town (subject to approval by the Selectmen)  land, water rights, development rights, easements etc. as may be necessary to conserve and properly utilize open spaces and other land and water areas in town.

The Conservation Commission is responsible for acquisitions and maintenance of Northfield's conservation areas including Knowles Pond, Richard P Smart, and Granite Mills.

The Conservation Commission meets quarterly on the Third Wednesday (Mar, Jun, Sep, Dec) at 7:00 pm in the Northfield Town Hall.
