Land Use

Conservation, Planning, Zoning

Northfield provides for orderly development within town through its planning and zoning processes. The goals of these efforts includes minimizing the placement of incompatible land uses adjacent to each other, protecting water quality and our shared aquifer, minimizing erosion, and maintaining the quality of life within town.

These activities are governed through the Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Regulations and Wireless Telecommunications Ordinance, which are available in the 'Ordinances and Regulations' section of this website.

New construction, changes in use of a parcel, and subdivision of land all require a town permit. These permits are available in the 'Applications and Permits' section of this website.

The Activities of the Planning Board and Zoning Board of Adjustment are coordinated by the Land Use Administrator.

Code Enforcement Officer Russ Wheeler can answer your questions concerning any building, construction or subdivision project you may be planning.
